Silver Junkie is the alter ego of singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist Tino Biddeloo. He creates richly textured music with an unpredictable coat. His warm voice floats on a lo-fi sound carpet with daring soundscapes and sidekicks to world music, jazz, rock, chanson.
Tino Biddeloo is assisted by American saxophone player Nik Phelps who appeared on albums by both Frank Zappa and Tom Waits, percussionist Karen Willems (Inwolves, Yuko, Zita Swoon), double bass player Nicola Lancerotti (Skin quartet) and occasional guest performances of soprano Elise Caluwaerts amongst others. Silver Junkie has released two albums, well received by critics and music lovers.
Silver Junkie often combines music with film and visual arts. In 2010 the music video “Maria” won the first price on the Holland Animation film festival. Furthermore, Silver Junkie experimented with live improvisation on the surrealist short film “L’Homme sans tête”. In 2013, Tino’s love for cinema led to a collaboration with Philip Henderickx, who asked him to be the main character and composer for the short film “L’Homme Atlantique”.
This year Tino is working on the soundtrack for the feature film “Onder het Hart” (Underneath the heart), with Belgian actor Koen De Graeve and Dutch actress Kim van Kooten (production Waterland film & A Private View). Writing for film is the epitome for Tino: is the complete symbiosis of his artistic talent. Aesthetics, image and sound find their true place in one organic whole.
“It is not the predictable, conservative day to day life that inspires me, but the hazy zone between dream and reality. That same field of tension is also very present in the music of Silver Junkie, which strives to go beyond boundaries, evoking indefinite desires. Each song is a journey of exploration, reaching for small and big emotions. Impression and expression are Silver Junkie’s natural drive”. Tino Biddeloo
